President's Update 8-25-2021

By John Holmquist
President, The Landings Association

As we move into fall, we are aware that we may have one unwelcomed companion…a hurricane. This year we have another…the COVID-19 Delta variant. We assumed that if we were vaccinated, we could return to a familiar normal. We were wrong. We now look to the booster shot to provide the next period of normalcy. Until then, get vaccinated; wear a mask indoors if you don’t know whether the people inside have been vaccinated; and get that booster shot.

Fall also brings the selection of candidates for The Landings Association’s Board of Directors. A committee of residents interviewed 15 residents who submitted applications. The following six residents were selected as candidates: Mary Lee Beach, Bill Bina, Carol McCarthy, Cary Shapoff, Victor Shernoff, and Herman Stone. Three candidates will be elected by the community in an upcoming election. Congratulations to the candidates, and thank you to all who applied to be candidates.

With respect to the search for a new General Manager/Chief Operating Officer, the search committee interviewed three executive search firms in August. It recommended to the Board that Management Matters, LLC be retained. The Board approved a contract with the company to assist it in its search. Management Matters has extensive experience in handling general manager searches for planned communities such as ours. The company is already familiar with our operations and staff since it has been assisting the Board and staff in the preparation of a new Strategic Plan. Its knowledge will prove invaluable as we move forward.
