OK. The better headline probably should be “Slowing Spam”. It’s interesting to note that back in 2004, Microsoft cofounder Bill Gates was quoted as saying, “Two years from now, spam will be solved.” Though Gates is one of the all-time visionaries, he missed the mark on this prediction, unfortunately.
So, what to do if you received unsolicited emails (spam). Your email service provider, such as Google, allows you to note a message received is spam. If enough people do so, not only will the provider block (or at least segregate the message into a spam or junk folder), but the platform used to send such messages will block the account from using its services.
In addition, legitimate senders must include an “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of each email. If you know the company to be legitimate, you can safely use this link to be removed from the list. If you are not sure about the company, it is better not to use that link, as it may be just a way to confirm an email address is active.
While on the topic, we sometimes hear from our residents who use Comcast for their email that they no longer are receiving our messages. We reached out to our web provider to see if there is something we can do on our end and were told that each customer will have to reach out directly to Comcast. It seems that Comcast is running some messages through filters that are delaying their delivery time. Another fix you might try if having that issue is making sure Webmaster@landings.org is on your approved senders list.
