First Responders Update

President, First Responders

As the holidays approach, please don’t forget about the importance of social distancing and wearing masks. We are all in a funk because life as we’ve always known it has changed. 2020 hasn’t been normal for anyone.

Trying to plan holiday gatherings and parties will be difficult at best. Please keep in mind we live in a wonderful, yet small, community. The COVID-19 numbers on the island are slowly trending up again. Be vigilant and take precautions when socializing. We don’t want to spread anything to our neighbors, family, and friends.

If you call us to come to you during a medical emergency, please put on a mask before we arrive. We are coming into your home, or wherever the emergency is, wearing a mask and gloves. We have to protect each other, and it’s important to remember we are all volunteers who live here. If we get sick, we won’t be able to take care of you.

We are not only dealing with COVID-19, but we are in the beginning of flu season as well. If you start to feel unwell, don’t panic. Many people who have the common cold, flu symptoms, or even an untreated urinary tract infection can have body aches, fever, weakness, and a cough. Whatever it is, don’t wait to seek medical attention.

I close this column with mentioning the yellow medical cards I’ve talked about A LOT! We are still responding to many people who don’t have them. Please, go by The Landings Association (600 Landings Way South) and pick up one for you and your family members. Fill them out completely, and either put them on the outside of your refrigerator or in a baggy inside the door of the fridge. That little card is so important.

I wish all of you Happy Holidays from all of the Skidaway Island First Responders. We are always here for you and hope you and your family stay safe and healthy during this holiday season.
