Residential Tree Removal Policy on Developed Property

Amber Capps - amber@landings.org
Executive Assistant to the Public Works Director

The Landings is known for its moss-draped maritime forest, miles of outdoor biking and walking trails, and exquisite landscape along the tidal marshes. The preservation of our maritime forest is crucial in protecting the diversity of trees, plants, and animals that exist on Skidaway Island.

To help conserve the existence of varied tree species throughout our community, The Landings Association has a long-standing Tree Preservation Policy in place. The policy outlines the procedures, policies, and guidelines for the maintenance of our urban forest and includes maintenance, protection, removal, and renewal of trees within the community.

All tree removals with a circumference of 20” or greater, as measured 36” above ground level on developed properties, require the evaluation of the Association’s Public Works Department. Public Works staff evaluate trees on a weekly basis on Tuesday and Friday mornings. If approved, the tree(s) are tagged with yellow “TLA Tree Project” tape, and a completed form is placed in the requesting resident’s mail tube. Please see Page 31 in The Landings 2020 Residential Directory and Section E.1 of The Rules and Regulations for a more detailed overview of the Association’s Tree Removal Policy. Please note, tree removal on undeveloped properties or as part of a project (e.g., home renovation, deck installation, or any other permanent structure installation) requires a permit from the Community Development Department.

Residents requesting the removal of tree(s) on private property can submit their request via SeeClickFix, or by contacting Public Works directly (pwmanagers@landings.org or 912-598-5509). When submitting your request, please include the following information:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Phone Number
  • Number of tree(s) and species (e.g., pine tree, sweet gum) you wish to remove
  • Location of tree(s) you wish to remove (e.g., back left of property, front right of property near driveway)
  • Please ensure that all tree(s) you wish to remove are tagged with tape, string, or ribbon, etc., so that they are easily identifiable when a Public Works Staff member is onsite for evaluation.
