Georgia 811 Utility Markings
Ever wonder why colored flags and markings are temporarily placed in the utility easements along the front and sides of your property? In Georgia, before underground digging occurs, homeowners and contractors are required to submit a locate request online (informally known as a “Dig Ticket”). The submittals of locate requests are a crucial part of the process to avoid any disruption to your cable, power, and/or another utility service.
Some common examples of projects requiring a locate request include, but are not limited to, fence installations, planting trees or shrubbery, installations of sprinkler systems, pool installations, mailbox installations, invisible dog fence installations and repairs, and any grading, boring, or trenching.
Please note that it is the homeowner’s and/or contractor’s responsibility to remove any flags/markings after the project/work has been completed.
The next time you see flags or markings on your property, make sure you take a moment to view the chart provided to help determine their respective meanings.
