On the Security Scene
Security and Chatham Emergency Services (CES) responded to a gas leak on Peregrine Crossing on Thursday, June 20. Georgia Power crews were working in the area when they struck a gas line. Atlanta Gas was notified and responded to the area to repair the line. Due to the location of the leak, a portion of Peregrine Crossing was blocked off while Atlanta Gas performed the work necessary for the repairs.
Security and CES responded to a possible structure fire on Captain’s Crossing on Saturday, June 22. Upon arrival, the responding officer observed smoke on the left side of the home. Fortunately, the smoke was coming from a tree nearby which was on fire after being struck by lightning. CES extinguished the fire, and no injuries or damages to the residence were reported.
Security and CES also responded to Moon River for a report of a possible fire after another tree had been struck by lightning. CES examined the tree and determined there was no fire.
On Friday, June 21, Security, CES, and CCPD responded to a three-vehicle accident involving a resident and two non-residents at the intersection of Diamond Causeway and Lake Street. The first and second vehicles were stopped at the light when a third vehicle did not slow in time to stop and struck the second vehicle from behind causing it to collide with the first vehicle. One-person sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital. The driver of the third vehicle was found at fault for the accident.
Security responded to a residence on Tidewater Way on Sunday, June 23 for a report of vandalism. The resident stated she and her family had returned from vacation to find that someone had egged the front of their home. There was no physical damage to the residence, and the resident did not want to file a report with CCPD. No suspects were identified.
Community Path Safety Drop-in Forum
A sub-committee of the Security Committee has been formed to address safety and etiquette on our community paths. On Tuesday, July 2, the group will have a casual drop-in session to provide residents an opportunity to share their concerns as well as recommended solutions for improving the overall experience on our paths. A survey related to this topic will be available in August for anyone who missed the drop-in forum.
