General Manager's Update
In about a month, you should receive the latest Community Survey. Every two years, we check in with our residents to understand better priorities and satisfaction levels with life at The Landings. This year, preliminary work was performed by the consultants using focus group participants, randomly drawn by the consultant from a list of all property owners. The focus groups were used by our consultant to obtain input on the key issues that will be explored in the survey. Unless a focus group participant informed us, their identities are not known by TLA. However, we greatly appreciate the time spent by these property owners to assist the consultants in identifying relevant topics for the survey. To those who participated, thank you for your assistance!
The temperatures are up, with daily near-record highs and heat advisories. Safety concerns and complaints are also up, and the most frequent are summarized below.
- Distracted drivers and erratic driving using cell phones. Georgia law requires hands-free driving, even in golf carts.
- Golf cart drivers operating at unsafe speed for conditions, such as when sharing the path with pedestrians. Pedestrians and cyclists always have the right-of-way on community paths.
- Failure to heed stop signs, especially at the County four-way intersection of 204 and Green Island Road and McWhorter Drive. Chatham County has committed to provide enforcement efforts at this location, as staffing permits. TLA does not have any legal authority to enforce traffic laws off TLA property.
- Unlicensed golf cart drivers. Georgia law requires operators of golf carts to hold a valid driver’s license. Golf carts must also be registered with TLA to operate in our community.
Please help prevent a tragedy in our community! Everyone has the right to travel safely. None of us has the right to jeopardize another’s safety and well-being.
Recently, TLA staff discovered a new technique for dredging our lagoons that is less disruptive. We also periodically must dredge them to a suitable depth. However, some lagoons are in areas that have proven challenging for this mechanical process. The new technique that staff implemented involves pumping material into massive bags, letting the water drain from the bags, and then removing the bags and the dredged material a couple of weeks later. You can read more and see a photo of this process by clicking here. This is just one example of the kind of innovation at work behind the scenes every day from your Association.
Hurricane Season begins June 1, so now is the time to get ready. The Landings Association has scheduled our annual Hurricane Town Hall Meeting for June 12 at 7 p.m. at Plantation Club. Representatives from the Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) will present updates on hurricane preparedness and planning. In addition, there is a Hurricane Guide on our website and on page 57 in our 2019 Landings Residential Directory to assist with your planning.
