TLA Update on Green Island Road Proposed Development

As stated in last week’s Enews item, there is a proposed development plan at the end of Green Island Road that includes independent living, assisted living, and memory care. Chatham County’s Metropolitan Planning Commission (MPC) will hold a public meeting about this development on Tuesday, May 14, at 1:30 p.m. You can read details here.

Concerned with the potential impact on traffic, The Landings Association contacted Chatham County and was told a traffic study for Diamond Causeway and Green Island Road would be required for this proposed project.

The Landings Association and The Landings Club own the two sprayfields that are used to treat most of Skidaway Island’s wastewater. The Club joined with TLA in providing notice to the developer and to the MPC to verify proper capacity for any development that plans to tie into this wastewater system, although use of the sprayfields for a property may be made only by Utilities, Inc.

As major stakeholders of the main potable water system on Skidaway Island (owned and operated by Utilities, Inc.), TLA and TLC also notified the Developer and the MPC that the potential impact of the proposed development on the water system and water supply must be considered and communicated.

The Landings Association will continue to provide updates as we receive additional information.
