Landlovers was established in 1974 and is the oldest organization on the island. Its purpose is to promote fellowship through social and cultural activities while working toward the continued improvement of community life in The Landings through its philanthropic efforts. The proceeds from the group’s six major fundraisers are given in grants to worthwhile projects and programs sponsored by on-island organizations. It also includes scholarships for The Landings Association and Landings Company employees, their spouses, and dependent children to assist with expenses for post-high school education and community service merit awards for high school seniors.
Since its inception, Landlovers has given away $1.3 million. In celebrating our 45th year, please consider joining, becoming a sponsor, or supporting our fundraising efforts! Photo Club Exhibit (please note date change) - Photography Club proudly will showcase its members’ best work at its Second Annual Photography Exhibition at the office of Wells Fargo - The Private Bank (6 Village Walk across from Four Seasons Travel). The three-day exhibit runs from Wednesday, May 1 through Friday, May 3. Exhibit hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday. Landlovers Closing Event Social
May 14 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Plantation Ballroom, join us for an evening under the stars as we drink, dine, and dance the night away with DJ Jeff Karr. The cost for this event is $49.50 per person and includes a member/cash bar. Spring Cocktail Attire -- Cocktail dresses for women and sport coat (tie optional) for men. Reservations will be accepted through May 6. The non-refundable cancellation date is May 6. Next, we are setting our sights on paddling in the St. Simons and Jacksonville area. Established in 1981 in Savannah, America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia is a locally inspired, volunteer driven nonprofit food bank and community partnering organization. Second Harvest serves as the food safety net for tens of thousands of children, senior citizens, low-income families, and people with disabilities who are at risk of hunger throughout Southern Georgia. Four times a year, Landlovers Community Service gets together on a Friday morning to provide the volunteer labor to pack boxes for needy families at our local food bank. The next packing date is Friday, May 24. No skill is required, just a caring heart. Sign up starts immediately until the meeting date. All are welcomed, but participants must be members of Landlovers. We will meet at 8:15 a.m. in the Methodist Church parking lot to carpool to the food bank’s volunteer center. Share Your Vacation with Those in Need
Are you traveling this Memorial Day holiday and staying at a hotel? If you have any unused personal-sized soaps, shampoos, or lotions, please bring them back to Savannah. (No mouthwash, please.) We will take them to various charities in Savannah. This month we will be taking them to Social Apostolate. The organization works with poor, homeless, disabled, and at- risk people in many different ways, including providing showers for those in need. Our next collection dates are May 1-7. Dropoff will be at The Landings Company’s Welcome Center (1 Landings Way North). A group of Landings residents called the Skidaway Servers has taken on the responsibility of providing a meal for 30 people. Their goal is to provide meals for The Ronald McDonald House every Friday during the year. Usually three couples per week provide the meal and often go out to dinner afterwards.
