Georgetown University anthropology professor emerita Susan Terrio will discuss: Going it Alone: The Plight of Migrant Mothers and Girls in U.S. Mothers and young women are particularly vulnerable to violence in their home countries and during their journey to the U.S. Despite the fact that the majority seek asylum, they suffer from the lack of due process and human rights while in immigration detention. Susan will discuss this issue based on the extensive research she has conducted in federal shelters for minors and immigration prisons for women and their young children.
