The October 11, 3:45pm meeting of the Skidaway Abigails will feature Latrell Gulotta, Family Treatment Court Coordinator of the Chatham County Juvenile Court. The meeting will be held at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 1 West Ridge Road on Skidaway Island. Ms. Gulotta will share her experiences working with the Court’s highly structured 18-month program that is designed to break the cycle of substance abuse by parents whose dependency puts their children at risk for abuse and neglect. Parents enrolled in the program must have weekly court reviews, attend and complete drug and alcohol treatment, provide observed drug screenings, participate in regular visitation with their children, allow unannounced community policing visits, obtain stable housing and employment. As an accountability court, the program has a schedule of incentives and sanctions that may include incarceration. Latrell Gulotta completed Bachelor degrees in Psychology and Criminal Justice as well as a Masters degree in Applied Sociology from the University of Central Florida. Ms. Gulotta has worked in the field of Social Services since 1993. She has been focused on at risk families and children since the start of her career. This is an opportunity to learn more about how Savannah is addressing problems with drugs by learning about a very comprehensive program. It is also an opportunity to get the perspective on this broader problem from someone who is serving on the front lines of the battle against drugs.
