Today at the Landings: 53 °F

Southeast Georgia is one of the prettiest places in the United States. Area residents are able to enjoy the region's extensive estuaries, marshes, barrier islands, and abundant wildlife. This is not due to happenstance. The November meeting of the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) of Skidaway, scheduled to be held on Monday, November 8, at St. Peter’s Church beginning at 7:00 pm, will present Charles McMillan from the Georgia Conservancy who will discuss the history and continuing legacy of land conservation in coastal Georgia, which has done so much to enhance the district. The Georgia Conservancy is a statewide, membership-based environmental nonprofit founded in 1967 with a mission to protect Georgia through ecological and economic solutions for stewardship, conservation, and sustainable use of the land and its resources. The Georgia Conservancy takes stands on a range of issues at local, state, and federal levels to affect policy change, always advocating for the protection and conservation of Georgia’s natural resources. The group focuses year-round on issues such as transportation, energy, water resources, land conservation, and development to make Georgia a place where people and the environment thrive. Charles McMillan, the Coastal Director and Natural Resource Director for Georgia Conservancy, leads the organization's statewide natural resource protection work from its office in Savannah. Charles grew up on St. Simons Island, Georgia, and practiced civil engineering for 35 years before moving to Savannah in 2014 as part of his second career in conservation. The CCA’s November raffle prize will be a medium weight spinning rod and reel ideal for fishing in the Landings’ lagoons, plus a tackle box with several recommended lures. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the seminar location on the night of the event. CCA is a non-profit organization with chapters on the Atlantic, Pacific, and Gulf Coasts.
